Well, I get you: I was recently focused on Montreal's (Canada) finest tables and despite this city being so blessed by numerous great tables, it is already about time that I jump into another Gastronomic destination. There comes a time when, as good as one city might stand before food, the tape reaches out it's recording dead end.

La Ciccia (Noe Valley) is THE place to go to for wonderful Sardinian food and wine. Superb! http://www.laciccia.com/

On my last trip Acquerello (Nob Hill) was very good, Fleur de Lys was delicious in every way. Citizen Cake (Hayes) was fun for lunch...great soup (but the cupcakes were better at Kara's Cupcakes in Ghiradelli Sq). Terroir Wine Merchants (SoMa) and Arlequin (Hayes) for some of the oddest most incredibly delicious vin naturel out there.
Little Garden in Chinatown has good dry fry chow fun (but not as good as Asian Cafe Express). Chix wings at San Tung (Inner Sunset) were fab and worth the trip but get there by 11:15am. Cafe Claude (Union Sq) pours some decent wine and has good charcuterie and cheese plates.
Bar Crudo (NOPA) was a bust for us...no flavor. Crepe House (Hayes) for nutella and banana crepe...yum.

It may be a bit out of your way, but try Tamarindo's in downtown Oakland. (It's about 4 blocks from the BART station on Broadway.) The Asada Jalisco and their homemade tortillas were divine.

Oh, and Alembic (bar) in the Haight. They invented craft cocktails and the menu is reasonably priced. Great vibe!

Chefgwen is oh so right. Zuni. There's a reason why it's lasted this long. Great food. The chicken with bread salad is a must. Often imitated. Flavor never duplicated. And I do love Yank Sing for dim sum. Great selection. I also favor Kokkari (I think that's the spelling), a Greek restaurant with the best lamb chops I've ever had in my life. Great bread. Really, everything is stellar.

I also like Slanted Door, Tartine for a little sweetie. Missed Citizen Cake, which was closed over the holiday weekend I was there. Wah! Everyone raves about A16. I've always loved Swan Oyster Depot, so funky and fun. Quince, Little Star--people speak of these. I want to go, I want to stay, I want to eat.
